Through our many attempts of failed diets, we've learned that it is nearly impossible to resist cravings for beloved foods we grew up eating. As much as we tried to eat healthy we would always find ourselves craving more food and we'd end up binge eating. Through our struggles we decided to give our bodies what it craves but manipulate these nostalgic dishes by creating healthier versions.
This has by far been the most successful we have been with changing our eating habits and over time we've noticed our body starts to crave healthier alternatives over the traditional unhealthy versions. One of our all time favorite ingredient to use to replace unhealthy items is cauliflower!
This wonderful vegetable is extremely versatile! It can take the place of nearly anything from meat to rice to pasta! Cauliflower can have a variety of different textures from crunchy, to chewy, to mashed, to creamy. This enables it the be the perfect substitute for many dishes and since it is a vegetable loaded with nutrients, there is no guilt associated with it. Here are 15 cauliflower recipes for you to try out!
15. Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes

14. Cauliflower Vegan Ground Meat
Part of our "Get Healthy" plan is to reduce the amount of meat we consume. Its been a long journey and we've searched high and low for a meat substitute that would give us the same satisfaction as eating meat would (without soy). At first we were really into mushrooms and beans but the texture of the mushrooms were too chewy (not meat-like) and the beans would get mushed up if mixed around too much. However, if you mix in some coarsely chopped cauliflower with the two and add your favorite seasonings, the taste and texture very closely resembles that of ground meat! Perfect for Taco Night! Check out this recipe!
13. Cauliflower Tater Tots
What food doesn't remind you more of your elementary school cafeteria than tater tots? (Ok, don't answer that... I'm sure a bunch of pleasant... and not so pleasant memories just popped up just now). Nonetheless, tater tots were definitely a childhood favorite of ours. Of course now, we no longer have the metabolism we once had in elementary school to enjoy them like we used to back then but by replacing the potatoes with cauliflower and baking them instead of frying, you end up with a not-so-unhealthy cauliflower tater tot hack that will bring back some wonderful childhood memories. A finger food must! (Oh... and don't forget to share these with the kiddos!). You can find the recipe HERE!
