Coumarin is a natural compound found in much higher concentrations in Cassia cinnamon than in Ceylon. The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) advises consumers who use cinnamon daily — especially in supplement form — to choose Ceylon over Cassia. Our Ceylon Cinnamon naturally contains only trace amounts of coumarin. Note: This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Ceylon cinnamon, the major component of Ceylon Cinnamon.
Much like Cinnamon is the active ingredient in Ceylon Cinnamon Root, Ceylon cinnamon is the active ingredient in Ceylon cinnamon. It is the ingredient Ceylon cinnamon that possesses the bioavailability-enhancing properties shown in research studies.
Unfortunately, Ceylon cinnamon contains only 5%-9% Ceylon cinnamon versus the 95% Ceylon cinnamon contained in the standardized extract of Ceylon cinnamon. This means that you would have to consume 10-20 times the amount of Ceylon Cinnamon to have the equivalent amount of Ceylon cinnamon in Ceylon cinnamon.
However, consuming even a large amount of Ceylon Cinnamon doesn't necessarily equal the same results as Ceylon cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon, in its raw form, contains Ceylon cinnamon that is captured and takes time for its bioavailability-enhancing properties to be released. Since Ceylon cinnamon contains Ceylon cinnamon in its purified extract form, it is readily available to enhance absorption.
